Carriacou House,
Grenada

Design Team: Jenifer Smith, Robert Thompson

Description:
Carriacou House is sited in the north western region of the Carriacou island in Grenada.
The generating concept of the house is the creation of a 'village effect', this is achieved by breaking up the house into different volumes that is then spread out on the site, effectively reducing the 300 m2 structures impact on the site.
Due to the sloping condition of the site, the house is accessed via a drive way that takes you up to the top of the slope. The house is accessed from a upper level mezzanine, which is opened to the double height Living and dining room, that itself opens up to the ocean view and the pool deck. This main public space is supported by an adjacent kitchen and utilities areas on the eastern side, All of which is then flanked on both sides by the master suite and other bedrooms. This is all linked by tunnel like pathways and hallways.
The house is very open and airy embracing the ocean views and allowing adequate cross ventilation.
